 Solid Model Life
Toshiyuki Kondo

Started making solid models from the third year of junior high school at the age of 15.

In the 1950s, the heyday of solid models was the heyday of many manufacturers selling wooden aircraft and ship assembly kits.

In aviation magazines such as "Koku-Fan ", which was first published in 1951, articles on the production of solid models were actively published, and I longed to start production.

At that time, about 15 clubs for solid model enthusiasts were established in various places.

Know-how of making works is rapidly developing based on these.

It was also an era when he was absorbed in creating works by incorporating the know-how of pioneers such as creation techniques and procurement of materials.

Fighters also changed from propeller warbirds to jet fighters and supersonic eras.

Experimental aircraft that grab the boy's heart are appearing one after another.

At that time, it was difficult to find drawings. I gathered up the materials and made it myself.

The more I knew it, the more I changed the way I created it to express the beauty and precision of the model.

Details have been greatly improved by techniques such as a mosaic model that divides each panel and finishes it in a parquet style. Established the know-how of current work production.

Every time I saw a military aircraft landing at Nagoya Airport, I was impressed by the roaring sound and the shadow of the aircraft.

Someday I made mainly US military aircraft.

As a result of the switch to the plastic model, the wooden assembly kit almost disappeared, and as a result, the interest of the young people shifted to the plastic model, but many of the solid model clubs continued their activities.

Each modeler uses the dexterity of Japanese minions as a weapon to create one after another aircraft that can only be done with solid models.

While collecting drawings obtained from specialized magazines and various related parties, Super scale  Challenge to make a size model.

Solid model clubs created in various places in the 1950s have continued their activities while consolidating and abolishing, and as of 2010, about 200 modelers belong to 6 clubs, and exhibitions of works are being held.
